Nova Scotia RV Camping Guide

Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail

The Cabot Trail's 298 km loop around the highlands is Canada's most celebrated drive — whale-watched coves, ceilidh music, and an organic farm brewery to anchor the stay. October's color rivals New England's with a fraction of the traffic.

The South Shore

Lunenburg's UNESCO waterfront, Peggy's Cove at golden hour, and the lighthouse route's fishing villages string the Atlantic coast southwest from Halifax — a shoreline built for unhurried RV days and forest-brewery evenings.

The Fundy Shore and Annapolis Valley

Nova Scotia's farm-and-wine belt runs the valley behind the Fundy tides — Tidal Bay, the province's signature white, pairs with the world's highest-tide scenery at Burntcoat Head. Wolfville makes the tasting-room hub, with New Brunswick around the bay. There are beautiful farm stays too, including at fifth-generation Nichols Farm Market.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Nova Scotia?

June through October — high summer for beaches and festivals, late September into October for Cape Breton's color season, which many consider the trip's whole justification. Lobster seasons rotate by district, meaning fresh catch somewhere nearly year-round.

Can I drive my RV on the Cabot Trail?

Yes — RVs complete the loop daily; it's paved throughout with real grades and switchbacks that reward lower gears and patience. Most travelers debate direction: clockwise puts you on the inside lane through the dramatic sections; counterclockwise gives the driver the ocean views. Either way, allow a full day minimum and fuel in advance.

What should US RVers know about crossing into Nova Scotia?

You'll arrive via New Brunswick by road (passports, declarations, and Canada's firearms rules apply at the border) or by ferry from Maine to Yarmouth in season — the CAT ferry takes RVs and shortcuts the drive dramatically when running. Personal-use propane is fine either way.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Nova Scotia?

Tourist corridors post restrictions in season. Harvest Hosts stays keep it easy: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — a harborview taproom being the local specialty.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Nova Scotia?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 64 Nova Scotia breweries, farms, and wineries with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — an organic farmhouse ale, a Tidal Bay bottle, or chowder with the harbor lights coming on.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Nova Scotia RV trips?

Yes — Cabot Trail-area campgrounds book solid in color season, so membership pays for itself in about two nights. The brewery-to-brewery routing here may be the best in the network east of Oregon.

RV Camping in Nova Scotia

4.9 Rating·5,814 Reviews

Nova Scotia is never more than 67 kilometres from the sea at any point — and it feels it, from Peggy's Cove's granite lighthouse to the Cabot Trail's clifftop curves. The province has 64 Harvest Hosts locations offering overnight RV stays, with a brewery lineup strong enough that the three most-booked hosts all pour: Organic Farm Brewery & Taproom on Cape Breton, Scenic Forest Brewery & Taproom, and Coastal Harbor View Brewery Retreat. Members can also choose from 8 farm stays and 2 wineries province-wide.

Owners are wonderful people. Toured the farm and had great conversations. They are not fully opened yet but it will be amazing when they are. Excited to come back at some point and see their progression. Couldn't ask for a better location.

We had a great stay and highly recommend this Harvest Hosts location! The hosts were welcoming, the atmosphere was relaxing, and everything made for a wonderful overnight stop. The drinks were excellent, and the live band on the night we stayed was an unexpected bonus that made the experience even more enjoyable. We'd definitely stay here again!
