From CMO to Campground Mode: Our First Stop with Campground Partners
When I semi-retired from my role as Chief Marketing Officer at Harvest Hosts, I did what any rational person would do—I bought an RV and hit the road. My new mission? Advocate for the lifestyle I’ve been promoting for years, now as a full-fledged traveling member of the Harvest Hosts family. And of course, put all those beautiful partnerships we’ve built to the test.
Our very first trip in the new rig was a mix of excitement and “where-the-heck-do-we-go-now?” Thankfully, the Harvest Hosts app had our backs. I toggled on the new Campground Partners layer and—bam—Virginia lit up like a Christmas tree. One spot jumped out immediately: Jellystone Park in Luray. Great location, awesome amenities, and super close to the famous caverns. Booking was a breeze, and we used the member discount to save a nice chunk of change.
Check-in was effortless. We picked up firewood from a fully stocked camp store (seriously, it had everything), and parked at the end of a row with a killer view of the mountains and the playground. Between the paddle boats, fishing pond, bike trails, arcade, and TWO giant bouncing pillows, the kids were blissfully entertained while I looked like a tournament winner along the banks of the stocked fishing pond. Bonus: we caught so many bass my son got tired of reeling them in, and we let some of the other kids experience the joys of fishing!
Dinner was baked sweet potatoes by the fire, plus a little RV cooking for good measure. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get better, our little guy rolled out in his toy tank (yes, a tank!) to the delight of every passing kid and a few amazed staff members. Jellystone was pure joy. The friendly team even gave us local tips and said, “Don’t worry about the trash—just leave it by the site.” Hospitality, nature, and a break from Zoom fatigue? We’ll definitely be coming back.
Northgate Properties: Leading the Way with 25 Campground Partner Locations
One of the benefits of being both a member and insider of the company is that I can give you a lot of context from both perspectives. I did not know this when I first set out to plan our trip, but one of the largest partners to jump on board with the new Campground Partners Program is Northgate Resorts, the team behind many of the most iconic family-friendly campgrounds in the country, including several Jellystone Park locations, of which Luray was one. Northgate has added 25 of their campgrounds to the platform, making it easier for Harvest Hosts, Boondockers Welcome, and Escapees members to find reliable, fun-filled campgrounds that offer exclusive discounts just for being a member.
Let’s be clear: these are not Harvest Hosts locations. These are full-service campgrounds offering exclusive discounts and perks to Harvest Hosts Members, and they appear within the Harvest Hosts map once you turn on the Campground Partners data layer. While they operate independently from our Host network, we hold Campground Partners like Northgate to the same high standards—welcoming staff, quality sites, and a great guest experience.
Northgate joined the program not only to bring more exposure to their properties but also to offer a valuable service to our traveling Members—making it easier to find top-notch campgrounds wherever the road leads.
