In the center of little Avondale just 15 miles east of Pueblo on U.S. 50 lies a charming old bar in a white brick building in need of a fresh coat of paint, where locals and travelers tend to wet their whistles at the end of a long day. A local dive bar and Avondale institution – is a 1,700-square-foot business owned by Avondale native James Birner and his wife Erica, and has been serving up drinks to the small rural community for the past 90 years. Throughout the generations they worked hard and it instilled a family value, a family history, a pride in the community and a pride to be from Avondale. And although the primary product sold at the establishment just so happens to be alcohol, people keep coming back for the community feel for nearly a century. Chuck’s Place is more of a beer-drinking, card-playing, pool-shooting type of crowd, many of whom have known one another for the entirety of their lives.
