About
This remote canyon property offers one of Arizona's most pristine and unspoiled natural settings, nestled within the Tonto National Forest and closed to the public since 1945. Guests have the rare opportunity to explore a landscape teeming with native plants and wildlife, featuring towering canyon walls, lush vegetation, flowing creeks, and scenic hiking trails that lead to waterfalls and natural pools. The property's isolation ensures that campers are genuinely separated from crowds—each generous campsite spans roughly a quarter mile apart, providing the feeling of having discovered a personal slice of wilderness. The centerpiece of the property is the historic mining ghost town of Chrysotile, with standing buildings, mine entrances, and rich historical significance waiting to be explored. Visitors can walk through remnants of the once-thriving mining era, including original structures and dozens of accessible mine entrances that showcase Arizona's industrial past. The combination of geological wonders and historical exploration creates a uniquely immersive experience unlike typical hosted locations. Campsites are exceptionally spacious and thoughtfully distributed across the valley, accommodating rigs of various sizes and allowing guests to choose between riverside locations, centrally-positioned spots with expansive views, or more secluded options further into the canyon. Each site features primitive camping amenities including granite stone-lined fire pits and log seating, surrounded by beautiful trees and native vegetation. The property's 600 acres provide abundant opportunities for hiking, exploring, and discovering natural attractions—with many guests finding one night insufficient and recommending stays of at least two nights to fully experience all the location has to offer.
