The Aerospace Museum of California was founded in 1982 as the McClellan Aviation Museum, a part of the US Air Force museum system. After McClellan Air Force Base closed in 2001, the community rallied to keep the Museum open. When we reopened in 2005, we changed our name to more accurately reflect the Sacramento region's contributions to aviation and aerospace. Located on the north end of the former McClellan AFB, this stop is a plane spotter's dream! It boasts a view of the McClellan Airport, with an easy walk down to Jet Services and an easy drive to the Sacramento Executive Airport or Sacramento International Airport! Besides backroads travel and plane spotting, what else can you do? 15 minutes from the Arden Fair Mall and 20 minutes from Downtown Sac, this spot is convenient when looking to explore the Sacramento area and central when travelling from the Bay to Tahoe! While you camp in our front lot with a view of our aircraft and of CalFire, come on in and learn about Sacramento's long and proud history in the history of aviation!
