About
This location offers spacious, level concrete parking that accommodates rigs of any size, situated in the heart of a quiet downtown area within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, and local shops. The property features well-lit, secure parking that guests consistently praise for its cleanliness and ease of access, making it an ideal overnight stop for travelers of all schedules.
The museum itself spans an entire city block and houses five rooms of diverse artifacts chronicling the region's rich history, with particular emphasis on the area's coal and oil industries. Exhibits include a fully restored 1930s Richfield gas station, vintage automobiles ranging from Model T's to a 1939 Oldsmobile, horse-drawn carriages, a stagecoach, and an impressive collection of Western artifacts and historical memorabilia from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A recently added Print Museum within the complex showcases printing presses and a Linotype machine, offering visitors a comprehensive look at the area's industrial heritage.
The welcoming and knowledgeable volunteer staff takes evident pride in the collection and local history, going out of their way to assist visitors with information and accommodations. Guests frequently note the staff's exceptional friendliness and willingness to provide tours and personalized experiences. The location runs on visitor donations, which are gratefully accepted and essential to maintaining this community treasure.
The surrounding town is charming and walkable, with convenient access to dining options, grocery stores, and other amenities within easy reach. The peaceful, safe atmosphere makes it an excellent stopping point for travelers heading between Northern and Southern California, offering a meaningful break from highway driving while providing insight into the people and history that shaped the region.
