About
This decommissioned Atlas missile silo set on 24 acres in the Smoky Hills of Kansas offers a one-of-a-kind overnight experience that blends Cold War history with peaceful countryside hospitality. Guests consistently describe the property as "peaceful," "beautiful," and "relaxing"—a striking contrast to its original purpose. The spacious, level grass camping areas accommodate RVs and trailers of all sizes, and the surrounding mowed walking paths invite exploration of the stunning landscape, particularly at sunset and sunrise when the views are spectacular.
The one-hour guided tour of the underground missile silo, launch control center, and related structures is the centerpiece of any visit, and guests rave about its educational and fascinating nature. The tour leader brings extensive knowledge of the Atlas missile program, Cold War history, and the engineering behind these remarkable facilities, sharing both historical details and an inspiring vision for the property's transformation. Visitors consistently note that the tour exceeds expectations and offers a once-in-a-lifetime perspective on this critical chapter of American history.
The location fosters genuine community among guests, who gather around the communal fire pit to share stories and enjoy the evening under the stars. The property is exceptionally pet-friendly, with plenty of space for dogs to roam safely, and the host's welcoming presence and responsive communication make arrival and planning seamless. Nearby attractions include Wilson Lake—a pristine destination just 10 miles away known for water sports, scenic views, and over 23 miles of hiking and biking trails—as well as local dining and breweries that enhance any stay.
This is a place actively evolving with ambitious plans for the future, including additional accommodations and expanded amenities. Guests find inspiration in witnessing this work-in-progress and look forward to returning to experience the ongoing transformation of this remarkable piece of American history into a vibrant, sustainable destination.
