About
This charming location in a small town of 1,300 offers far more than a typical museum stop. Guests discover an extensive collection spanning local heritage, from vintage automobiles and agricultural equipment to a 1927 biplane, model railroad displays, and household artifacts from early settlers. The Natural World gallery features a mosasaur skull replica, while dedicated exhibits showcase Native American artifacts and Hutterite collections, along with recreated spaces including a general store, print shop, and town jail. The adjacent 40-acre Prairie Arboretum provides a peaceful complement to the museum experience, with over a mile of walking trails winding through native trees, flower gardens, and ponds—complete with picnic areas and a gazebo on an island. Visitors consistently praise the tranquil atmosphere and the opportunity to experience small-town America at its best, with additional recreation available through an 18-hole disc golf course on-site or a traditional golf course just down the road. The mercantile features locally-created artwork and goods connected to the region's history, along with clean-label homemade ice cream from a local organic farmer—a delightful surprise that guests rave about. An on-site archives and library filled with historical documents, maps, photographs, and genealogical resources welcomes those interested in researching local history or family roots. What truly sets this stop apart is the warm, genuine hospitality that guests consistently highlight. Visitors report feeling genuinely welcomed and at home, with staff eager to share local insights and recommendations that enhance the overall experience of this historically rich community.
