While parking at Chaplin Creek Village, which has a lot of area for walking on a self guide tour, bird watching and some wild life, other points of interest close by is the Franklin Creek State Park, loaded with many hiking trails and natural springs to drink out of, also the Nachusa grass land with 5000 acres of prairie and the largest buffalo herd east of the Mississippi.
