About
This location offers visitors a glimpse into the vital logging heritage that shaped this region, with original buildings, historic photographs, models, and authentic logging equipment from the Civilian Conservation Corps era. The museum features a restored one-room schoolhouse and a traditional cook shack where guests can enjoy an authentic lumberjack breakfast prepared over a wood stove. A commemorative C.C.C. statue honors the young men who served in this transformative program from 1933 to 1942. Situated on 29 pristine acres, the property provides a peaceful retreat with ample grassy parking areas and multiple electrical hookup options for overnight guests. A scenic boardwalk and nature trail wind through the grounds, offering views of the Tahquamenon River and surrounding forest where visitors frequently spot blue herons, ducks, beavers, and other wildlife. The location's serene setting makes it an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions while enjoying quiet evenings in the Upper Peninsula. The grounds are well-maintained and dog-friendly, with convenient amenities including clean bathrooms, picnic tables, and fire rings. Guests consistently praise the knowledgeable and responsive staff, as well as the spacious layout that provides plenty of room to explore and relax. The property's central location near Newberry offers easy access to the charming local community and regional attractions, making it a welcoming stop for travelers passing through the area.
