The History
The orchard and vineyard property for Mountain View Winery has been owned by the Young family for sixty years. In 2001, Michael Young and his wife Wendy took over their family’s orchard and established the vineyard and winery. Nearly twenty years later, the winery and orchard continue to thrive, allowing visitors to sample wines in their tasting room, which is open year-round.
The Business Today
Today, the Youngs continue to tend an organic vineyard and also diligently bottle their wines on the premises. They are a Western Slope winery that is open year-round in the heart of the Uncompahgre Valley of western Colorado. Their wines contain subtle and varied flavors that the Colorado soil and crisp mountain air produce. As a result, they have wines to suit every taste. In addition, their tasting room contains a gift shop, offering various Colorado-made gifts that include locally made fruit jams, jellies and syrup, elk and game salami and summer sausage. Of course, you can also purchase their wines here, as well.In their orchard, they grow apples, pears, peaches, plums and cherries in season. It is also a family-friendly place, as they open up their orchard to throughout the spring to fall. When asked about their favorite part of running their business, Mike and Wendy replied, “We love the laid back atmosphere of western Colorado. It is wonderful to be a part of producing something that delights people. With the winery, it is fun to visit with the range of people from all over the world.”
