When Kindness Takes the Wheel: How One Harvest Hosts Location Turned a Medical Emergency into a Story of Compassion
David and Judy, longtime RVers and Harvest Hosts Members since 2019, were enjoying a peaceful stay at Sadona Farms during their cross-country travels. Like many experienced RVers, they had seen it all—beautiful sunsets, tire blowouts, surprise rainstorms.
But nothing could have prepared them for what happened next.
While stepping out onto their toy hauler's deck, Judy lost her footing on a six-inch threshold and fell. Hard. The injury was severe—a compound fracture in three parts of her ankle, later requiring emergency surgery, rods, plates, and pins.
David was in shock, trying to care for Judy, call 911, and keep their three dogs, including an 18-month-old Great Dane, calm inside the rig.
That’s when the owners of Sadona Farms, Robin and Daniel stepped in.
“I didn’t even know them,” David later wrote on Facebook. “But they made sure EMS found us. They tended to our dogs while I was in the hospital with Judy. They made me dinner when I came back exhausted and let us stay as long as we needed. They even checked on us every night.”
Robin guided paramedics through the country roads and stood at the end of the long driveway to wave them in. Once Judy was safely transported, Robin and Daniel fed David, walked the dogs, and stocked the couple’s fridge so they wouldn’t have to worry about a thing.
“It just felt right to help,” Robin said. “We’ve had our own emergencies. You don’t forget how much it means when someone steps in.”
“They were our guests, but they became our friends,” Daniel added. “We told them to stay as long as they needed. We weren’t about to rush them off after what they’d been through.”
Even after surgery and Judy’s return to the rig, Robin stayed close by—making sure they had the proper ramp for her wheelchair and offering meals when David was juggling caregiving duties.
“If I could give them a 10-star rating, I would,” David shared with over 20,000 RVers on Facebook. “They are the reason we’ll never forget this stop—for all the right reasons.”
Harvest Hosts is filled with stories just like this. Hosts who go out of their way. Members who tip generously or lend a hand with a flat tire. Friendships that start over a jar of jam and last for years.
Robin and Daniel didn’t help David and Judy for a review. They didn’t do it for social media shoutouts or good karma.
They did it because that’s what community looks like on the road.
The History of Sadona Farms
Located in the quiet countryside of Scottsburg, Indiana is Sadona Farms—a 10-acre slice of heaven run by Robin and Daniel, a warm-hearted couple who’ve turned their family land into a place of refuge and restoration for travelers.
Their journey as hosts began almost accidentally. After signing up with Harvest Hosts in September 2022, they flipped on their listing and received their first booking within just a few hours. Since then, the farm has welcomed hundreds of guests, racked up over 100 glowing reviews, and become a favorite stop for RVers heading through southern Indiana.
They grow fresh produce, make small-batch jams and jellies, and offer optional home-cooked breakfasts and dinners. Guests are often treated to far more than a parking spot—homemade meals, helpful setup support, and heart-to-heart conversations are part of the experience.
Robin and Daniel are looking ahead, too. They’ve begun expanding their RV parking area, improving maneuverability for larger rigs, and adding more signage for easy access. They’ve also launched a Facebook page and are exploring other social media platforms to share farm updates, new produce offerings, and stories from the road.
Reviews say it all:
“Our stay at Sadona Farms was a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10. Great folks, great food, and an amazing host experience.”
“We purchased eggs, jam, veggies, and left with full hearts. Their hospitality is the kind you remember long after you hit the road again.”
“Robin and Daniel are the kind of people who make you feel at home from the moment you pull in.”
