RV Camping in Alabama

4.9 Rating·12,682 Reviews

Alabama has 135 Harvest Hosts locations offering unique overnight RV stays at breweries, farms, wineries, and attractions from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast. With 32 miles of white-sand Gulf beaches, the southern tail of the Appalachians, and a craft beer scene that's grown up fast, Alabama makes an easy add to any Southeast RV route — and an even better destination on its own. Veteran-Owned Craft Brewery Retreat, Speakeasy-Style Brewery & Meadery Retreat, and Rustic Craft Brewery & Taproom are the state's three most-booked hosts, which tells you something about Alabama's beer scene. Members can also choose from 34 farm stays, 5 wineries, and 4 breweries statewide.

Farm stay at Tea Farm & Family-Friendly RV Stop

We had a great time. Friday or Saturday seems the best time to come as they have events happening. Then Sat AM was super chill on the porch, quiet morning, rocking chairs, coffee…. Everything you need to relax!

The host are very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions. The farm is beautiful and the sunset with the goats grazing on the hillside was beautiful to sit and enjoy. We enjoyed our farm stay and would def recommend it to anyone!

Alabama RV Camping Guide

North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley

Huntsville is home to a surprisingly deep bench of RVer attractions — the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Tennessee River lakes, and the foothill scenery around Lake Guntersville. Brewery and farm stays cluster along I-65 and US-72, making this the natural first night coming down from Tennessee.

Birmingham and Central Alabama

The I-65 corridor through Birmingham and Montgomery carries most of the state's brewery stays, with civil rights history stops in both cities worth building a layover around. Hosts here tend to be easy highway pulls — good news for big rigs transiting toward the coast.

The Gulf Coast

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach draw the winter snowbird crowd and summer beach traffic alike. Coastal farm and attraction stays make a cheaper base than beachfront RV resorts, with Mobile's historic district and the USS Alabama an easy day trip. From here, Florida's Panhandle beaches are under an hour east.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Alabama?

Spring (March–May) and fall (October–November) hit the sweet spot — warm days, manageable humidity, and azaleas or fall color depending on the season. Summers are brutally hot and humid — doable if your rig has solid A/C and you plan around the heat, but don't expect comfortable dry camping. Gulf Coast winters are mild enough that Alabama pulls a genuine snowbird season. Hurricane season peaks August–October, so watch forecasts for coastal stays.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Alabama?

It varies by city and county, and many retail lots and beach-town streets prohibit it. Harvest Hosts stays sidestep the question: you're an invited guest on private property with the host's permission — legal, safe, and a lot more scenic than asphalt.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Alabama?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 135 Alabama breweries, farms, wineries, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — a flight of local beer, farm produce, or a bottle of muscadine wine.

Should I plan around college football weekends?

If your route passes Tuscaloosa or Auburn on a fall Saturday, yes. Home-game weekends fill area campgrounds and clog highways, and hosts near the stadiums see heavy request volume. Book those stays well ahead — or use them as an excuse to join one of the country's great tailgating cultures.

Can I use Harvest Hosts in Alabama during winter?

Yes — Alabama winters are mild, and breweries, attractions, and most farms welcome RVs year-round. The Gulf Coast stays comfortable through winter, making Alabama a legitimate snowbird alternative to more crowded Florida routes.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Alabama RV trips?

Yes, for most self-contained RVers. A Classic membership costs $99/year and typically pays for itself in 2–3 nights versus private campgrounds at $30–50/night. One Gulf Coast run with brewery stops along I-65 can cover the annual cost on its own.
