Kentucky RV Camping Guide

The Bluegrass and Bourbon Country

Lexington's horse farms and the bourbon corridor toward Bardstown and Louisville form Kentucky's signature loop — distillery and brewery stays put the tasting room a short walk from your rig, which is exactly how bourbon tourism should work. Keeneland's April and October race meets pack the region.

Western Kentucky and the Lakes

Land Between the Lakes anchors a quieter western Kentucky of big water, quilt trails, and small-town distilleries — including the moonshine-legend story at Casey Jones Distillery near Hopkinsville. Easy connections south to Tennessee.

Eastern Kentucky and the Appalachians

Red River Gorge's sandstone arches headline eastern Kentucky's mountain country, with the Country Music Highway and Cumberland Gap rounding out a region most RVers haven't discovered yet. Grades and curves are real; the payoff is bigger.

Mammoth Cave Country

The world's longest cave system sits mid-state off I-65, with farm stays nearby making the natural base camp. Book cave tours ahead in summer — and bring a jacket; it's 54°F down there year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Kentucky?

April–May and September–October are prime — spring green on the horse farms, fall color in the Gorge, and comfortable distillery-touring weather at both ends. Summer is humid but lake-friendly; Derby week (early May) transforms Louisville and books everything around it.

Can I do the Bourbon Trail in an RV?

Yes, and host stays are the cheat code: several distilleries welcome overnight RVs, solving the tasting-and-driving problem elegantly. Larger distilleries have RV-friendly lots for day visits.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Kentucky?

Rules vary by city and county, but Harvest Hosts stays make it simple: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — possibly beside a rickhouse.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Kentucky?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 134 Kentucky distilleries, breweries, farms, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — a bottle of small-batch bourbon, farm goods, or a brewery dinner.

Can I use Harvest Hosts in Kentucky during winter?

Distilleries and breweries largely welcome RVs year-round — and winter is a fine time to tour them, with no lines and rickhouses steaming in the cold. Farms often pause. Winters are mild-ish with occasional ice, so watch forecasts in the eastern mountains.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Kentucky RV trips?

Yes — the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in 2–3 nights, and a single bourbon-country loop typically covers it. Compared to booking separate lodging near the distilleries, the math isn't close.

We enjoyed our stay. Took advantage of a guided trail ride and the eggs rolls. A couple low branches on the road in but we were able to maneuver around most. Host were very attentive and available to answer any questions!! Perfect location to visit the ARC Encounter.

This was a great overnight stop as we traveling to Maine from the deep south. Plenty room and flat even surface to park 45’ plus tow. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. It was our honor to meet some of our Veterans and share a meal with them. Delicious BBq Butt and all the fixings. Easy access and close to interstate. Would stop here again if we passing this way.
