RV Camping in Massachusetts

4.9 Rating·5,748 Reviews

Massachusetts has 77 Harvest Hosts locations offering overnight RV stays at farmstead wineries, orchards, and breweries. Unlike its traffic reputation suggests, most of the hosts sit in the state's rolling, uncrowded middle, where history anchors every route: Boston and Plymouth on one end, Berkshire cottages on the other, and 400-year-old farm towns between. Member-favorite stops include Historic Farmstead Winery Retreat, Country Vineyard & Live Music Retreat, and Historic Lumberyard Craft Brewery — the state's three most-booked hosts, all in the central hills. Members can choose from 12 farm stays, 3 wineries, and 6 breweries statewide.

Was a great place easy parking. Coming in from the east was curvy and steep in places but leaving on rout 23 to route 8 was great. Recommend coming in that way with a big rig. Food was phenomenal I recommend the nachos with corn chips. They had trivia night when we were there. Great place and drinks were good too. Peaceful and safe stay. Definitely recommend this place if you passing thru.

Brewery stay at Harvest Hosts Breweries & Distilleries

My journey to the location was on beautiful winding roads through the forest and travelling through small towns lined with American flags. The location was as it is pictured. I spent the evening swapping stories with friendly club members, winning at Keno, having a few beers and a hot dog! I want to come back when they are having the chicken BBQ. And (obviously) everyone thought Biggie was adorbs!

Attraction stay at Historic Military Vehicle Museum Retreat

We had a very pleasant overnight experience at the American Heritage Museum. Unfortunately, we didn’t arrive early enough to tour the museum, but we had the opportunity to speak with the manager, who shared some of the museum’s history with us. There is a huge parking area that is level, quiet, and made for a comfortable night’s stay. We hope to return with more time to explore the museum itself.

Massachusetts RV Camping Guide

Central Massachusetts and the Pioneer Valley

The state's host heartland: farmstead wineries and breweries among the hill towns between Worcester and the Connecticut River, with the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) delivering premier fall color westward. Brimfield's famous antique shows (May, July, September) transform the area: a bucket-list stop if your timing lands.

The Berkshires

Tanglewood summers, Norman Rockwell's Stockbridge, and October hillsides make the state's western edge a season-spanning destination. Hosts here connect naturally to New York's Hudson Valley and Vermont's Green Mountains.

Boston and the North Shore

North Shore rewards include Salem, Gloucester's working waterfront, and clam shacks worth the detour. Take advantage of the park-and-ride and commuter rail combination to explore the city while staying outside of it.

Cape Cod and the South Coast

The Cape in an RV requires timing: cross the canal bridges early on summer weekends or don't cross at all until Tuesday. September repays patience with warm water, open roads, and classic New England shore towns at their calmest.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Massachusetts?

May through October when summer belongs to the Cape and coast and fall belongs to everyone. Experience foliage in the Berkshires and hill towns, apples and cider donuts at farm hosts, and comfortable sweater weather statewide.

What's this I hear about "getting Storrowed" in Boston?

It's real: Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive along the Charles have overpasses as low as roughly nine feet. Every September, a moving truck famously proves why trucks and RVs are prohibited. Keep RVs off Boston's parkways entirely, use a GPS with your height programmed, and visit the city by train from a host outside it.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Massachusetts?

Most cities and Cape towns restrict it with active enforcement in season. Harvest Hosts stays are the worry-free answer: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Massachusetts?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 77 Massachusetts wineries, farms, breweries, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase. Try farmstead wine, live music and a flight, or a peck of just-picked apples!

Can I use Harvest Hosts in Massachusetts during winter?

Breweries and wineries often welcome winterized rigs year-round; farms typically pause after the fall rush. Massachusetts winters bring real snow and shoulder seasons offer the best blend of availability and weather.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Massachusetts RV trips?

Yes, southern New England campgrounds run $50–75/night in season, so the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in about two nights. For Cape-bound travelers, a host night on the mainland the evening before crossing is the trip's best logistical move.
