Nebraska RV Camping Guide

Omaha, Lincoln, and the East

Omaha's food-and-beer scene punches far above expectations, and the city is famously home to the #1 zoo in the country. Lincoln adds Husker-Saturday energy, and the Missouri River bluffs hold farm country stays within an hour of both. Iowa sits just across the river.

The I-80 Corridor and the Platte Valley

Kearney and the Central Platte River are ground zero for the spring crane migration (roughly late February through early April) — a sunset river full of cranes is worth planning an entire trip around. The rest of the year, winery and lakeside stays turn the nation's busiest RV corridor into a place worth slowing down.

The Sandhills and the West

Nebraska's northwest is the surprise: the Sandhills' grass-covered dunes, Scotts Bluff National Monument and Chimney Rock on the Oregon Trail, Carhenge's roadside genius, and fall cottonwood gold along the rivers. Big skies, empty roads, and Wyoming at the far end.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Nebraska?

Two answers: May–October for classic conditions, and March for the cranes. The migration weeks around Kearney are chilly, unforgettable, and increasingly popular — request area stays early. Fall brings harvest energy and mild days; summer is hot, big-skied, and thunderstorm-dramatic.

What's the deal with the sandhill crane migration?

Each spring, the majority of the world's sandhill cranes — hundreds of thousands of birds — stage along an 80-mile stretch of the Platte River near Kearney and Grand Island, roughly late February to early April. Dawn and dusk river flights are the show. It's one of the last great migrations on Earth, and I-80 drives right past it.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Nebraska?

Rules vary by city, and interstate-exit lots increasingly post against it. Harvest Hosts stays trade the gamble for an invitation: private property, the host's permission, and if you choose well, a spot right by the creek.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Nebraska?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 99 Nebraska breweries, wineries, farms, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — fresh produce, a lakeside dinner, or a case for the road.

How windy does it get on I-80?

Nebraska is windy. Sustained crosswinds are routine, especially in spring, and drivers of high-profile rigs (like tall RVs or trailers) should take them seriously. Mornings are calmer than afternoons, so on high-wind days, a host stay and an early start beat pushing through.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Nebraska RV trips?

Yes, the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in 2–3 nights, making it a smart pick for anyone road-tripping through Nebraska. Trading an exit-ramp night for a winery on a creek is the whole pitch in one sentence.

This HH location is only 8 miles north of I-80 and worth the short drive. Level parking, great store with a few groceries and amazing Lake Mac merchandise. Beautiful white sand beaches nearby at State Park. We will be coming back here again. Electric and water. We even lucked out and had a picnic table. And oh, the views!!!!!

Beautiful scenery. Easy parking. Our hosts gave us a wonderful behind-the-beautiful-scenes tour. It was enlightening to get just a small taste of all they do to provide food for others. This entire sweet family were all great hosts, and we highly recommend this stay.

What a kind and wonderful Harvest Host. We did not have dinner at the restaurant, but it looked amazing, and we bought a number of things from the shop that will be eating in the upcoming weeks. Water, electricity, dump station… So accommodating, and so much appreciated. We highly recommend this Harvest Host!

Super good time! Very quiet, very good food. The fried pickle app was great, my husband had a brisket dip, and i had the pub melt on rye- excellent! Beer was mighty tasty as well. Another bonus was to watch the locals especially a table of crop dusters that just got finished doing fields. We will definitely return at so point!

Great stop during our travels to Yellowstone! Plenty of parking lot space across from the brewery...easy in/out! We enjoyed the afternoon with Kros Strain and loved the food truck for our dinner that evening! It's in a wonderful location and was really quiet during our stay! Will definitely stay again and also look for their brews in-store (loved the Lime Tans!!)!

Farm stay at Organic Lavender Farm Retreat

We had such a wonderful stay here. The hosts are so gracious and welcoming, and if you love lavender like we do then this farm is a must-visit. Communication was excellent before and during our stay, and the hosts are incredibly gracious and welcoming. Access was very easy- there are a couple of miles of maintained dirt road, and their lot is large, level and spacious. We had a very easy time parking our 33 ft Class C with a road (and didn't have to disconnect which was a big help as we had an early start planned the next day) along the lavender fields. We were invited to walk around the beautiful property as well as peek inside their geothermal greenhouse. We saw varieties of lavender we did not know existed before our visit here, including pink and white lavender. We also spent some time in the store chatting with the hosts and enjoying cups of delicious lavender lemonade (definitely recommend on a hot day!), and the story behind this family business is heart-warming. To top it off, we were treated to home made cinnamon rolls in the morning. Excellent stay and we recommend everything about it!

Wow, this place is a special spot. Easy access, paved parking with several electric hook ups with most of them accommodating any sized rig. There is a place to dump your waste water and a few hoses available to fill water. Peaceful and quiet too. It’ll be rare to find something this good as a Harvest Host.
