New Hampshire RV Camping Guide

The White Mountains

Mount Washington rules the skyline, and the Cog Railway is the RVer's way up — the summit Auto Road restricts larger vehicles, but the Cog departs from a host where you're already parked. The Kancamagus Highway's 34 miles deliver New England's most famous foliage drive; go midweek in peak weeks.

The Lakes Region

Winnipesaukee and its neighbors carry classic New England summer — brewpub stays near Meredith and Laconia put dinner and a sunset dock within walking distance. Motorcycle Week (June) fills the region; plan around or join in. Lake Winnipesaukee is a strong summer base for boating, fishing, swimming, and relaxed campground time.

The Seacoast and Merrimack Valley

Portsmouth crams remarkable food and history into 18 miles of coastline, with barn-brewery stays inland where the farm roads start. Maine begins across the Piscataqua bridge; Massachusetts is under an hour south. Seabrook and Jenness beaches are nice alternatives to Hampton Beach for sunset and off-season beach walks.

Slot NH into a New England summer road trip. Crossing borders? Browse hosts in neighboring Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts, or continue north into Quebec.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in New Hampshire?

New Hampshire's foliage peaks from north to south, beginning in the Great North Woods and White Mountains in late September and moving south through October. Summer is for the lakes; late September through mid-October is for the mountains. May–June brings waterfalls at full volume and blackflies at full enthusiasm, so pack accordingly.

Can I drive my RV up Mount Washington?

Not the big rig — the Auto Road restricts larger vehicles, and the grade would test them anyway. The Cog Railway is the answer, and it's a Harvest Hosts location: sleep at the base, ride to the summit, tell the story forever. Check the Auto Road's current vehicle rules if you're considering it in a smaller RV.

How bad is Kancamagus traffic in foliage season?

Peak October weekends: genuinely bad, in the best-natured way. Drive it midweek or at dawn, fuel up beforehand (there are no services on the Kanc), and give yourself triple the map time for overlooks you won't resist. For a less crowded foliage day, pair the Kancamagus with Franconia Notch early, then save Crawford Notch or the Seacoast for later in the season.

Is overnight RV parking legal in New Hampshire?

Rules vary by town, and tourist corridors post against it in season. Harvest Hosts stays keep it simple: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — possibly under the biggest mountain in the Northeast.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in New Hampshire?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 90 New Hampshire breweries, farms, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — Cog tickets, a barn-brewed flight, or maple syrup in the grade you actually want. New Hampshire's tax-friendly shopping can make local purchases lighter on the wallet.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for New Hampshire RV trips?

Yes — White Mountains and lakes-region campgrounds run $45–70/night in season and vanish for foliage weekends, so the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in about two nights. The Cog stay alone converts most skeptics.

RV Camping in New Hampshire

4.9 Rating·6,866 Reviews

New Hampshire packs the full New England kit into one tax-free state: the Northeast's highest peaks, a lakes region that defines summer, and foliage that stops traffic — sometimes literally, on the Kancamagus in October. New Hampshire has 90 Harvest Hosts locations offering overnight RV stays at mountain railways, barn breweries, and lakeside brewpubs, headlined by the state's most-booked host: Historic Mountain Cog Railway, where members overnight at the base of Mount Washington itself. Fellow favorites Northwoods Brewing Company and Twin Barns Brewing Company round out the top three. Members can choose from 21 farm stays, 2 wineries, and 9 breweries statewide.

Quick response from HH, good directions and a quick tour of the farm on arrival. Very nice folks. Flat area on a grassy field was appreciated. Arrived hungry and had lunch- very good. Farm stand had a lot to choose from. Took a walk around the property- there’s a gentle stream and animals to make friends with. Can’t wait to return.

We enjoyed our stay here. We had lots of fun kayaking on the Saco River. It was a relaxing and unique experience. If you want to tube on the river, reserve one ahead of time; they were sold out for the entire weekend beginning at least on Thursday. When you pull-in off the road, the Harvest Host parking is straight ahead in the back.

This was THE perfect stay! We came from Maine, headed towards Vermont and this was the halfway point. There are 3 spots for HH. I liked ours best, as it bordered a beautiful field. Pizza and beer were delicious, but the crullers the next morning...OUT OF THIS WORLD. 10/10. One thing to note is if you are traveling with pets there's a road across the street we walked down near a lake, which was helpful to let them stretch their legs. Super quiet at night. Highly recommend this stay!

This was our second time here as HH. The parking is easy and convenient. The views are amazing..overlooking the valley with mountains in the distance! We have eaten in the pub side and the restaurant side. Both have awesome pizza!! The restaurant side has more entrees ..the haddock sounded delicious but I just love their pizza so we got that. The seating outside on the deck has fantastic views and is very peaceful. The staff are the best!! All super friendly and so attentive!! We will be back!

Farm stay at Historic Farmstead B&B Retreat

The host was quick to respond to messages on arrival day and guided us to parking and electric hookup. We travel in a 22’ van and had no issues navigating the driveway or parking. Outdoor shower for Harvest Host guests was a bonus. Breakfast was served at 8am where we learned a bit about the history of the property and the hosts. Enjoyable overnight stay and lovely historic building. Recommend a stay at the b&b.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. The area to park is in a grassy level field, easy to pull into and set up. There is a store on site that sells local goods and homemade items. They had lots of fruits and veggies, a variety of meats, some great ice cream. We woke up both mornings, walked over to the store and got fresh danishes that were so good. Communication with the hosts was great before and during our stay. We would definitely stay again if in the area.
