Pennsylvania RV Camping Guide

Lancaster County and Dutch Country

Amish farmland, smorgasbords, and covered bridges make Lancaster the classic Pennsylvania stop — share the roads gently with buggies and shop the farm stands hard. Gettysburg's battlefield sits an hour west, the most moving history stop in American RV travel.

The Susquehanna Valley and the Ridges

Harrisburg's river towns anchor the host heartland, where brewery and winery stays sit beneath the long green waves of the Appalachians. US-15 and I-81 thread the valleys — big-rig-friendly and quietly scenic.

The Poconos and Northeast

Lake-and-waterfall country two hours from New York City, with the Delaware Water Gap as its dramatic front door toward New Jersey. Fall weekends fill; midweek color is the connoisseur's play.

Pittsburgh and the West

The Laurel Highlands hold Fallingwater, whitewater at Ohiopyle, and ridge-country farm stays, while Pittsburgh's bridges and food scene reward a city day. Lake Erie's wine-shore corner caps the state's northwest.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Pennsylvania?

May through October — summer for the lakes and festivals, October for ridge-and-valley color that runs weeks as it works south. Harvest season turns Lancaster's farm stands and the wineries into the state's best version of itself.

Is the Pennsylvania Turnpike OK for RVs?

Yes — RVs are routine on the Turnpike, tunnels included; just know your class for tolling and consider E-ZPass to simplify it. The parallel free routes (US-30, US-22) trade time for scenery whenever you'd rather have the scenery.

What's the etiquette for driving in Amish country?

Slow near farms, pass buggies wide and patiently, and keep headlights on for hills. Sundays mean more buggies and closed shops.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Pennsylvania?

Rules vary by municipality, and Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and tourist towns post against it. Harvest Hosts stays keep it simple: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — a valley winery over a turnpike plaza.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Pennsylvania?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 398 Pennsylvania brewpubs, wineries, farms, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — a gastropub dinner, a valley red, or whoopie pies by the box.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Pennsylvania RV trips?

Yes — the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in 2–3 nights versus private campgrounds at $40–65/night, and Pennsylvania's east–west corridors (I-80, I-76, I-81) make it one of the most-transited host states in the network.

RV Camping in Pennsylvania

4.9 Rating·29,029 Reviews

Pennsylvania invented the American road trip's raw materials — the first long-distance turnpike, the Gettysburg pilgrimage, Lancaster's farm lanes — and its host network runs right down the middle of them. Pennsylvania has 398 Harvest Hosts locations offering overnight RV stays at brewpubs, valley wineries, and farms, with the state's three most-booked hosts clustered along the Susquehanna corridor: Appalachian Craft Brewpub & Grill — featured on our blog — plus Rustic Craft Brewery & Gastropub and Historic Valley Estate Winery. Members can choose from 89 farm stays, 54 wineries, and 44 breweries statewide.

We enjoyed our stay here. The RV parking is in a nice setting and a short walk to the river. We had a great time kayaking on the Susquehanna River. It was a relaxing and fun experience.

We loved staying here! Everyone from groundskeeper to janitor to office admin to pastor was welcoming and went above and beyond in making our stay amazing! Parking and set up we're EASY, even in a large, older rig without self-leveling. We loved getting to walk in the huge parking lot, see many others doing the same, enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area, have our dogs able to comfortably walk and get exercise, learn about the history of this community, and even be blessed with fresh local peaches, tomatoes, and sourdough bread during our stay. (While I know that's not the norm at all, it was a sweet blessing from this community that I wanted to mention.) Grateful for cones being placed for us, too, so that our cord and hose weren't run over. Definitely recommend this stay, and we look forward to returning in the future!

Peaceful serene farm with beautiful scenery. The host and his family are so kind and welcoming. The store has amazing pre-made goodies you have to try them. They have limited days and hours at the store.

We picked this location because of the amenities it offered. It was a first come first serve situation that went well on the first day we arrived since we were the only RV there. The second night was a different story…full. It was great to have our choice of electricity. We fell in love with their sweet wines and the staff was very friendly. It was a great experience and we look forward to returning in the near future.

WOW, quiet, secluded and AWESOME. Excellent stay. The wine was fantastic (a case worth fantastic), sweet tea is great. Owner was fantastic. We had the parking area to ourselves, so very quiet. Didn't see any deer though. But if you are looking for a great getaway--this is for you. Bring some food and some tastebuds, because their wine variety is superb.

We were greeted by the owner, given choices to park , and then went shopping in the Coop . The homegrown corn and summer squash were fabulous. We bought local cheese and rosemary bread to make a feast . It was interesting to learn of their future plans. At night, the farm was so quiet and peaceful . We will definitely be back.

The host met me when I arrived and was so accommodating. Only one other trailer there overnight. It's very peaceful and the surrounding green hills of that area are beautiful. They have a nice little store there with beer, eggs and souvenirs. Really enjoyed my stay.

Plenty of room on the hill with a beautiful view. Had an excellent Smash Burger dinner with a Smoky Old Fashioned and did a little early Christmas shopping. Hosts and Bar Tender were great to talk to. They have an awesome event venue in their barn, a distillery and a store onsite. Be careful pulling in off the road onto the gravel driveway, my 5W was very close to the bed of the truck. We will definitely stay again when passing through.

Attraction stay at Historic Warbird Air Museum

What a fun place to stop!! A must if you are a pilot or aviation fan. It's mainly a restoration and maintenance facility run as a museum. It's on the small side as aviation museums go, but they have an awful lot packed into it and it really is nicely done. The C-123 is fantastic and you can climb aboard and look all around. Run by some really friendly folks. Admission is free, but you'll want to leave a donation. Big parking lot with very easy access. You can camp right next to an F-4 Phantom! Probably your only opportunity ever to do that! Just keep in mind this is a boondock. They don't have any hookups. Highly recommend this unique spot.

This was an ideal location to stop before we continued onto Rhode Island with our two pups! We wish we could stay longer, it is incredibly tranquil here, the walk along the gravel path is serene as you take in the horses and scenery. We had both electric and water, as well as Wi-Fi! Thank you so much for hosting us!

A perfect stay for kids! We loved the variety of food options and we could pull in sideways, pull out our chairs and enjoyed a perfect night of movies. The new owners were so hospitable and actually stay onsite in an RV too. Can accommodate any rig but just remember to pull into the exit when arriving! (I forgot) Would highly recommend this stop!
