Utah RV Camping Guide

Southern Utah and the Mighty 5

The five-park circuit strings 400 miles of red rock from Zion to Arches, with Scenic Byway 12 — arguably America's most beautiful road — connecting Bryce to Capitol Reef. Winery stays near Zion's gates beat Springdale's parking crunch decisively. Scenic Byway 12 includes steep grades, narrow sections, and the Hogback, which can be intimidating for larger RVs — check your comfort level and consider alternate routes for very large rigs.

The Wasatch Front

Salt Lake City to Provo lines up farm stays against the mountain wall, with the ice-cream-barn genre perfected at Santaquin and world-class canyons twenty minutes from downtown. This is the practical staging corridor for trips in every direction.

Northern Utah and the Uintas

The high Uintas, Bear Lake's improbable blue, and alpaca-farm country give the north a cooler, greener register — summer relief when the red rock bakes, and larch-gold Septembers.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Utah?

April–May and September–October are red-rock prime — warm days, cold-free nights, manageable crowds. Summer works with early starts and shade discipline (canyon country exceeds 100°F); winter dusts the hoodoos with snow and empties the parks for the hardy.

Can my RV go through the Zion–Mt. Carmel Tunnel?

Zion National Park enforces weight and size limits on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway. Vehicles that exceed these limits when entering at the South or East entrances will be denied entry, outside of a few exceptions. Before visiting, check the NPS's large-vehicle guidance page for details to ensure your rig can travel through the park.

Do I need reservations for the Mighty 5?

Increasingly — several parks have used timed entry or permit systems in peak season, and Zion's main canyon runs on shuttles most of the year. Check each park's current entry rules when planning, book campgrounds early, and lean on host stays outside the gates for flexibility the parks no longer sell. Timed-entry requirements change frequently (especially Arches), so always verify current NPS requirements before departure.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Utah?

Gateway towns enforce restrictions in season, and public-land camping has its own rules and limits. Harvest Hosts stays skip the scramble: an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — red-rock views included at the right address.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Utah?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 65 Utah wineries, farms, and attractions with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase — a red-rock red, fresh raspberry shake, or alpaca wool for the cold nights.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Utah RV trips?

Emphatically — gateway campgrounds near Zion and Arches run $60–100+/night in season and sell out months ahead, so the $99/year Classic membership can pay for itself in a single night. On a Mighty 5 circuit, host stays are the difference between planning around scarcity and just traveling.

Saltfire brewing not only has great beer, the folks that serve it up and the local patrons make this feel like a Utah version of Cheers. We had so much fun hanging out making new friends! There was a food truck on site but no food the Wednesday night we stayed. The parking was level and quiet with good T-Mobile services. We’ll definitely stop by whenever we are in the area! Cheers

Great accommodations! Super clean and very well kept! Big sites and something for everyone! We were able to park our motorhome and tow vehicle without unhitching and had plenty of room. Communication was great too! Thanks for a great stay!

Great location, not far off of I-84/15. Hosts very communicative on directions and amenities. I was so happy to find out they had a 30amp hookup so I could run my AC because it was HOT. Farm animals were fun to see. Perfect location to view the July 4th fireworks. And very peaceful after the blasts were over. Very friendly hosts and yummy farm-fresh eggs and lavender soap for purchase. Would love to stay there again

Perfect spot for our first Harvest Host stay. The Host responded to our request and messages within minutes. The spot for our 34ft Airstream was spacious and easy to pull through and the scenery outstanding! The Cider House is fantastic. We sampled several varieties, and all were unique and flavorful. I couldn’t pick a favorite! The staff were kind and a group a locals were there making for conversation and laughs to help us wind down from a long drive through Utah. 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
