Washington RV Camping Guide

The Coast and Olympic Peninsula

The 101 loop circles Olympic National Park's three worlds (think glaciered peaks, moss-heavy rainforest, wilderness beaches) with estuary farm and winery stays anchoring the southwest coast at Willapa Bay and Westport. Oysters come with the territory.

Puget Sound, Skagit Valley, and the Cascades

Seattle's orbit runs on ferries and mountain passes, including a brewery host at Snoqualmie Pass itself with ski traffic in winter, trailheads in summer, and pizza year-round. North Cascades and Rainier fill the horizon lines whenever it's clear. North Cascades Highway (SR-20) is seasonal, typically closing in winter — it's a common route for RVers and catches many by surprise.

Yakima Valley and Wine Country

East of the mountains, the Yakima Valley grows most of the state's grapes and nearly all its hops, with 300 sunny days ripening a wine industry second only to California by volume. Walla Walla and the Columbia Valley extend the tasting map toward Oregon and Idaho.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to RV camp in Washington?

July through September west of the Cascades, when the famous rain disappears and the peninsula and Sound shine. Wine country runs longer, April through October, with harvest (September–October) the atmospheric peak. Winter belongs to pass-driving skiers and storm-watchers on the coast.

Can I take my RV on the Washington State Ferries?

Yes, the ferry system carries RVs on nearly all routes, charging by vehicle length, and a sailing across the Sound with the rig aboard is a Washington rite of passage. Arrive early in summer (vehicle space is first-come on most routes) and check current size guidance for the largest rigs. Reservations are strongly recommended on many routes for larger RVs, especially during summer.

What about mountain passes in winter?

Snoqualmie, Stevens, and White Pass are serious winter roads. Traction requirements change by the hour, chains are legally required equipment in season, and closures happen. Check WSDOT pass reports before winter crossings, or take the year-round-milder Columbia Gorge route.

Is overnight RV parking legal in Washington?

Seattle and tourist towns enforce restrictions, and overnight parking is generally prohibited at Park-and-Rides in Washington. Harvest Hosts stays — an invited overnight on private property with the host's permission — are always welcome and legal.

How does RV camping at Harvest Hosts work in Washington?

Harvest Hosts is an annual membership that lets RVers stay overnight at 321 Washington wineries, farms, and breweries with no camping fees. Members request stays through the app, arrive in a self-contained RV, and support their hosts with a purchase. Try Willapa Bay oysters, a pass-top pizza and pint, or a Yakima Valley syrah.

Is Harvest Hosts worth it for Washington RV trips?

Yes, Sound-area and peninsula campgrounds run $50–85/night in season, so the $99/year Classic membership pays for itself in about two nights. A wine-country-to-coast loop covers it with a case to show for it.

RV Camping in Washington

4.9 Rating·28,386 Reviews

The Cascades split Washington into two distinct worlds: cool, mossy forests and coastal waters to the west and sunny vineyards, orchards, and high desert to the east. In an RV, you can wake up in one landscape and end the day in another. Washington has 321 Harvest Hosts locations offering overnight stays at estuary farms, mountain-pass breweries, and garden wineries across the divide. Member-favorite stops include Scenic Estuary Heritage Farm, Mountain Brewery with On-site Pizzeria, and Award-Winning Winery & Garden Retreat, which are the state's three most-booked hosts. Members can choose from 85 farm stays, 60 wineries, and 22 breweries statewide.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about wine and the winemaking process, the parking was easy and level, and the grounds and view were absolutely beautiful! It is a great facility with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Lots of wineries nearby. We will definitely try to make our way back here.

Attraction stay at Award-Winning American Car Museum

When we arrived we were met by a friendly and helpful security officer. He directed us to a secure parking area behind a locked gate. It was a huge area, ideal for any size vehicle. The museum is absolutely amazing! The car collection has something for everyone. Old cars, new cars, steam engines the variety was absolutely incredible. We spent about 3 hours looking, then went up to the cafe for a little snack and a cold drink. The whole experience was well worth the stop!

Our hostesses were very friendly and welcoming - we immediately felt right at home. We had a great, relaxing tasting. The grounds of the winery are wonderfully maintained including several areas for relaxing on the beautiful grass yard, spacious indoor space, or other areas overlooking the rolling hills and orchards surrounding the winery. There was also a wonderful food truck and a large, well maintained grassy parking area. Would definitely stay again!

From arrival they greeted us and let us know where to go. We did a highland cow session and my daughter loved it, we also saw the baby goats. Great, kind people. Also bought some eggs from their stand.

A beautiful spot next to the vines with an expansive view of pine forests on the surrounding hills. The parking spot was abut of a slope but it you pulled way forward it got better. Very peaceful evening (some noise from a wedding down below the tasting room) and morning. The wine tasting staff was very helpful and wines excellent. Saw a couple classic cars in the car park - an old MGA convertible and a Ford Falcon combi-van.

Wonderful, smart and ambitious hosts are carving out an enterprises in creative and sustainable ways. They provided a farm tour that was heart warming. Their lavender products are excellent. I’m excited to stay in touch and see how the projects progress. Also there is a fantastic public observatory in Goldendale (great programs).
